The continuous rise in storage chip prices is having a chain reaction on the smartphone market.
Blogger Digital Chat Station revealed that in the current round of storage price increase cycle, the most affected is not the high-end flagship, but the 2.5K mid-range models that focus on cost-effectiveness. Relevant manufacturers have begun to adjust their products and sales strategies to hedge cost pressures.
From the feedback within the industry, the changes are mainly reflected in three aspects. Firstly, some models that were first equipped with the Snapdragon 8E platform have gradually withdrawn the preferential policies offered during the initial sales phase, resulting in a slight decrease in terminal prices and an overall trend towards cautious pricing.
Secondly, the 512GB version is becoming the new shipping mainstay, and the price difference between it and the 256GB version has been significantly widened, generally in the range of 400 to 500 yuan, in order to guide users to shift to higher capacity specifications.
Thirdly, the supply of 1TB version has significantly tightened, and many already launched models have started to reduce their stock. For new models that have not yet been released, the 1TB plan has been directly cancelled to reduce inventory and cost risks.
On the issue of further capacity expansion, some netizens are also concerned about whether the Android camp will launch a 2TB storage version of the phone in the short term. Regarding this, the digital chat station stated that there are currently no Android manufacturers planning to launch 2TB related materials, and related products are unlikely to be launched in the short term.
From a more macro perspective, the rise in storage prices is not an isolated phenomenon in the mobile phone industry. Previously, it was reported that several hardware manufacturers, including Raspberry Pi and HP, have chosen to raise their product prices due to the significant increase in storage chip prices.
Analysis suggests that the transmission of cost pressure downstream may lead to a certain degree of contraction in global demand for consumer electronics products such as smartphones, PCs, and game consoles this year.
