According to 9to5mac, Apple is planning to launch the largest hardware overhaul in the history of its Mac product line later this year or early next year.
The new MacBook Pro will adopt OLED display for the first time on the Mac product line, replacing the existing mini LED technology. Thanks to the pixel level independent light control feature of OLED, the new screen will bring purer black performance, higher contrast, and more vivid colors.
With the upgrade of screen material, this device will also become Apple's first Mac computer to support touch operation. Apple is currently optimizing the macOS system to adapt to touch interaction, such as automatically enlarging controls when touching the menu bar and supporting gestures such as pinching and zooming.
In addition, the screen notch design that has been in use for many years will be cancelled and replaced with a hole digging camera similar to the iPhone and a "smart island" function for real-time display of notifications and background activities.
In terms of core performance, the new machine will be equipped with M6 series processors (M6 Pro/Max) using TSMC's 2-nanometer process technology. Thanks to the GAA architecture and advanced packaging technology, the performance of the M6 chip is expected to increase by about 18% at the same power consumption, and the power consumption will decrease by about 36% at the same frequency, achieving a generational leap in energy efficiency.
In terms of positioning, this new model will be higher than the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max models. Apple is considering renaming it "MacBook Ultra" internally to highlight its flagship status. The machine is expected to be officially released in October or November 2026.
