Li Kaifu: Mobile phones are absolutely the wrong device in the AI field

According to a report by CCTV tonight, Li Kaifu, CEO of Zero One Thing and Chairman of Innovation Works, expressed a heavyweight viewpoint on the program "Zhongguancun Dialogue - AI Spring Night".

Li Kaifu stated that "smartphones are definitely the wrong devices in the field of AI" and predicted that "in 5 years, our main use of AI will definitely not be through smartphones". At the same time, he judged that 2026 will be the year of the explosion of AI intelligent hardware.

He believes that mobile phones are "products of the previous era", and their core limitation lies in their inability to meet the real-time, natural, and seamless interaction requirements of the AI era.

Li Kaifu emphasized that what we really need is AI that can obtain contextual information as much as possible, actively process transactions, and have foresight, but the "binary characteristics" of mobile phones (either on or off) hinder this.

He also pointed out three core flaws of mobile phones in AI scenarios, including low interaction efficiency (requiring manual unlocking, opening applications, waking up voice assistants, etc.), non full time online (unable to continuously listen and capture environmental data), and form mismatch (large screen, handheld design is more suitable for visual interaction rather than natural language interaction).

And it has defined the device standards that truly adapt to the AI era, which must have the following features: voice driven, always on, always listening and capturing data, unlimited memory, and invisibility.

He emphasized that smart glasses will be the best starting point for AI first devices, which not only conforms to the trend of invisibility, but also meets the needs of visual output.
