Samsung has launched the world's first 2nm chip Exynos 2600, and giants such as Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Apple will also use 2nm technology in their next generation flagships, causing chip costs to skyrocket.

According to industry estimates, the cost of the A20 chip is as high as 280 US dollars per chip (approximately 1958 yuan), an increase of 80% compared to the previous generation A19 chip, far exceeding industry expectations.

This cost has broken the price record for a single mobile processor and become the highest known cost mobile chip.

It is reported that the A20 chip adopts TSMC's 2nm process and is the first to fully apply the full surround gate (GAA) nanosheet transistor technology.

This technology enables the transistor gate to fully encapsulate the conductive channel, reducing leakage and improving power efficiency. At the same time, it increases the chip logic density by about 1.2 times, enhancing energy efficiency and AI computing capabilities.

However, the yield of the first generation nanosheet architecture is still relatively fragile, and the process requires the use of new materials and high-precision manufacturing techniques, which directly increases production costs; TSMC's new technology also uses advanced metal interlayer capacitors, which improve efficiency but further increase expenses.

In addition, the A20 chip abandons Apple's cutting-edge InFO packaging solution and uses WMCM packaging technology instead.

This technology can integrate independent chips such as CPU, GPU, and neural network engine into the same package, enabling independent power supply and flexible configuration of core combinations for each module, improving overall efficiency and power control capabilities. However, the research and production of new technologies require additional investment and have become an important factor in cost growth.
