According to TrendForce Consulting, the total sales of automobiles in 37 global sales markets (see table notes) in August 2023 were 5.55 million units, an increase of nearly 1% compared to July.

The top ten brands in the global market are the same as last month, with Toyota, Volkswagen, and Honda taking over the top three. These three car companies are also the "iron triangle" in the global car sales rankings, occupying the top three positions year-round.

However, the difference is that thanks to the strong performance of new energy vehicles and the surge in overseas sales, BYD replaced Ford as the fourth largest brand in car sales in August, and its market share is only 0.1% lower than the third place Honda.

At the same time, BYD has not been affected by the sluggish sales of gasoline vehicles in the Chinese market due to its transition to the new energy camp. To date, BYD still maintains double-digit year-on-year growth rates in both Chinese and overseas markets, forming a sharp contrast with other car companies.

Ford, on the other hand, fell to sixth place due to a decrease in sales in its European and American markets compared to the previous month, with monthly sales declining by 6.7% and being overtaken by Hyundai Motor.

TrendForce Consulting believes that with the arrival of the fourth quarter, car manufacturers will make every effort to ensure smooth production, meet orders, and stimulate year-end sales, in order to mitigate the impact of economic changes on reduced order visibility as much as possible.
