On July 11th, Fast Tech reported that Apple journalist Mark Gurman revealed that the iPad Pro will become the first smart device equipped with the Apple M5 chip, and the new product will debut as early as October, making it Apple's strongest tablet.
It is reported that Apple last updated the iPad Pro series in May 2024, which was equipped with the M4 chip and OLED display for the first time. The transition from M4 to M5 took about 17 months.
Due to the introduction of OLED screens for the first time in the 2024 iPad Pro, completing the transition from Mini LED to OLED, there will not be significant changes to the 2025 model. Its appearance and OLED screen will continue the design of the 2024 model, but it will be equipped with the faster M5 chip.
It is reported that the Apple M5 chip is manufactured based on TSMC's improved 3-nanometer process, which can bring dual improvements in performance and energy efficiency. Moreover, the M5 will adopt TSMC's latest SoIC packaging process for the first time, which is the industry's first high-density 3D chiplet stacking technology, allowing chips to be directly stacked on top of chips.
It is worth noting that Apple is developing new display technology aimed at reducing the bezels of the iPad Pro, but it is currently uncertain whether this technology will be applied to the iPad Pro M5 device.
