Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially issued the "15th Five Year Plan for the Development of the Information and Communication Industry", which clearly proposes to deploy globally leading network facilities.
This includes: timely launch of 6G commercial applications; Accelerate the research and development of 6G core technologies, and continue to carry out 6G technology experiments; Develop 6G base stations, core networks, and other equipment, as well as 6G smartphones, to enhance the resilience of the industrial and supply chains.
In terms of 6G technology research and development, the Plan focuses on deploying:
Key technologies for tackling 6G
Systematically conduct research on key 6G technologies such as wireless, network, and security. Strengthen key network technologies such as native AI, synesthesia intelligent computing integration, token communication, data services, as well as ultra large scale antennas, synesthesia integration, and satellite ground integration AI、 Key wireless communication technologies such as energy conservation, collaborative sharing of high, medium, and low orbit spectra, and satellite ground spectrum sharing.
Promote the development of 6G standards
Encourage the industry to actively participate in the development of 6G international standards. Relying on industry standardization associations, build a 6G standard system that meets application needs and industry capabilities.
Conduct 6G technology experiments
Relying on the IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group, we will develop and build a testing and verification platform that meets the full chain and link requirements of the 6G technology industry. We will support joint research and development, debugging, and testing by domestic and foreign units, and promote industry maturity and ecological construction.
In terms of enhancing the resilience of industrial and supply chains, the Plan proposes:
-Develop 6G base stations, core networks, and other equipment, strengthen the development of intelligent optical transmission and access equipment, high-performance AI routers, network switches, and other equipment and systems, and make breakthroughs in satellite communication equipment.
-Develop 6G smartphones and an operating system based on open-source technologies such as HarmonyOS that supports intelligent communication and environmental perception, enriching the application software ecosystem. Promote the collaborative optimization of new terminals and communication networks such as smart glasses, smart home hubs, and brain computer interfaces.
However, at present, it is still in the stage of technical testing and prototype development, and there is still some time before ordinary consumers can buy commercial 6G phones and use 6G networks.
It is widely believed in the industry that 6G is expected to be commercially available around 2030, with communication capabilities more than 10 times that of 5G.
